Senior Bioprocess Technology Engineer (2001997) – San Diego, CA

Our dedicated Technology Development Team communicates with confidence and reacts quickly to drive innovation and develop sustainable solutions. Whether it's troubleshooting a low yielding production batch or designing and validating new processes to run in our enzyme production facilities, our Technology Development Team are the BASF focal point to connect and coordinate production, business and R&D. We consider our Technology Development team to be our production technology "champions", delivering winning results to internal and external customers.

We are seeking a professional like you to join our team. Under the direct supervision of the Head of Technology, you will be responsible for the analysis and improvement of enzyme purification and formulation processes from laboratory scale to commercial scale (50,000L plus). You will work in an enthusiastic, passionate and dynamic, cross-functional team to design scalable recovery processes, transfer processes to commercial scale, and employ continuous improvement strategies to enhance productivity, reduce cost of goods, and troubleshoot manufacturing issues as they arise. This position offers the opportunity to work in a global multidisciplinary team in a challenging and dynamic environment.

  • With a strong commitment to workplace and environmental health & safety, you will maintain 100% compliance with and demonstrate leadership of EH&S policies and procedures.

  • Utilizing your strong education, technical skills and work experience, you will support the development of downstream recovery, purification and formulation processes for enzymes in collaboration with fermentation and manufacturing subject matter experts.

  • Demonstrating a strong technical background and direct hands-on experience with bioprocess unit operations such as; continuous centrifugation, microfiltration, ultrafiltration, and knowledge/experience in column chromatography/IEX techniques, you will contribute as a subject matter expert to development and optimization projects of enzyme (and other bio-based) products.

  • With a strong entrepreneurial drive and customer focus, you will proactively seek out solutions to drive innovation, increase efficiency and reduce costs.

  • Your flexibility and willingness to adapt to situations will be essential as you may be required to provide hands-on execution, troubleshooting, and/or training of process technology from small to production scale.

  • Relying on your technical knowledge, problem-solving ability and expertise in Design of Experiments (DoE) and data analysis, you will provide troubleshooting support for commercial manufacturing operations and perform continuous improvement studies for existing commercial processes.

  • Embracing diversity and collaborating for achievement, you will work within multidisciplinary project teams to design and execute process development and optimization projects, interpret data, and work with other team members to integrate results into process designs and overall project plans.

  • Your ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously will be a valued asset as you meet timelines for multiple projects that may be at different stages of development.

  • A focus on developing yourself and others will aid you in identifying and evaluating new technologies for the production of enzymes.

  • Your effective verbal and written communication skills, along with your proficiency in Microsoft office applications, will be vital as you prepare and present technical reports, data summaries, protocols, and other technical and regulatory documentation.
