Application Engineer (1901865) – Southfield,MI

Wherethe Chemistry Happens

We are seeking a professional like you to support Application operations at our Southfield, MI and all other Automotive Coatings (ECN) facilities. In this role, you will develop paint lab application processes that emulate or correlate to customers' manufacturing processes. You will design MSA and Gage R&R studies that characterize spray system capability and, develop improvements for repeatability and reduction of variation. Additionally, you will participate in or lead projects to launch new products and processes and resolve customer concerns with workability, film performance, color, and appearance.

This is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate your Lean, Kaizen, and/or Six Sigma methodology experience.

  • Your desireto work in both a lab and customer manufacturing environment, as well as your strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge willbe a valued asset as you work in the laboratory and/or customer manufacturing facility todefine benchmark customer process profiles and develop correlated laboratory processes.

  • Demonstrating your project management skills withan ability to manage priorities and multi-task, you will work in Application spray boothsto execute application studies.

  • Yourrobust ability to analyze complicated data and interpret it will be essentialas you compile and analyze data to develop and implement improvements.

  • Utilizing your knowledge of electronic, pneumatic equipment and computer hardware /process control, you will work with Applications staff, maintenance, and equipment manufacturersto ensure application equipment is ready and reliable.

  • Leveragingyour education in Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering or Chemistrycombined with your work experiencein a chemical / process engineering role, you will perform paint circulationstudies to study effect of circulation on color, appearance and rheology.

  • Successfully interacting with the customer andapplying your problem-solving skills and experience in Statistical Design ofExperimentation, you will develop methods to reproduce customer problems, design experimentsto correct the problem, work with manufacturing to implement changes, andreport root cause and corrective actions to the customer.

  • Yoursuperior verbal and written communication skills will serve you well as youwill be responsible for the indirect supervision of staff to ensure applicationworkflow is meeting lab customer demand and achieving quality targets andprocess specifications.
