We are seeking an Associate Chemist to serve our OEM customers. In this role, you will develop new coatings formulas for the OEM automotive industry that meet customer requirements for appearance, workability, and film performance. You will support projects to resolve customer concerns with workability and film performance. Working under the direction of more senior chemists, you will develop and perform experiments while employing theoretical and scientific models to guide project endeavors. This is an excellent opportunity for you to demonstrate your ability to design and organize experimental procedures with a heavy emphasis on creative problem solving.
Formula for Success
Leveraging your Bachelor's in a science or mathematics discipline (chemistry preferred) and your experience in Design of Experiments, you will formulate paint based off of existing formula guidelines & best practices and develop new formulations and guidelines if the current ones do not pass customer criteria. This will involve developing DOEs and making and testing paint samples.
Your excellent organizational skills with an ability to manage priorities and multi-task will be essential as you work in a lab to make and test paint samples to internal and customer specifications. You will also use these skills to evaluate formulas for workability and film performance to ensure they meet customer requirements.
Your excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to interact with the customer will serve you well as you travel to multiple sites to review batch concerns and decide on adjustments when introducing new technologies to the manufacturing plants.
- Utilizing any knowledge you have in color and/or paint, you will resolve customer problems in the areas of appearance, workability and film performance.
- Demonstrating your proven analytical and problem-solving skills, you will develop methods to reproduce customer problems, design experiments to correct the problem, work with manufacturing to implement changes, and report to the customer root cause and corrective actions.
- Demonstrating your strong desire to maintain a clean and efficient laboratory by participating in existing Lean and 5S programs. Generating ideas that improve the safety, efficiency and overall effectiveness of the laboratory and its team.
- Applying your broad understanding of sciences and your ability to analyze complicated data and interpret it, you will assist internal manufacturing and customer facilities with batch evaluation and provide technical direction when needed.
