Southfield, MI

Join our Coatings team in our Southfield, MI headquarters! This role reports to the Head of Global Communications and is on site at least three or more days a week to effectively build relationships and relevant communications strategies for North America.

BASF’s Coatings division is a global expert in the development, production and marketing of innovative and sustainable automotive OEM and refinish coatings, decorative paints as well as applied surface treatments for metal, plastic and glass substrates in a wide range of industries. This portfolio is supplemented by "Beyond Paint Solutions", which enable new applications with innovative surfaces.

The ideal candidate will bring innovative thinking, creativity, solid knowledge of the latest social media/new cross communication tools along with exceptional verbal, written, and visual communication skills developed over 3+ years of proven experience in media relations, communication agencies, corporate communications, or a similar role within a global context. This role will shape the perception of global audiences in ways that successfully support the BASF Coatings’ communication need, particularly regarding global brand awareness and internal cohesion.

  • Serving as a member of the Global Coatings Communications team, collaborating closely with colleagues based around the globe and the local management team in North America.

  • Developing and implement strategic communication plans to enhance the visibility and reputation of BASF Coatings.

  • Crafting compelling narratives and key messages that resonate with diverse international audiences.

  • Leveraging a broad understanding of Social Media tactics and strategies

  • Managing media inquiries and act as a spokesperson for the company, ensuring consistent and accurate communication.

  • Working with senior executives to develop internal communications messages to motivate employee engagement and commitment, localizing global communications strategies.

  • Managing issue and crisis communications.

  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with trade and mainstream media to develop and distribute news releases, feature stories, and prepare executives and subject matter experts for media engagements.

  • Planning and executing communication activities such as press conferences, media briefings, Q&As, interviews, advertising, social media, events, and manage communications budgets.

  • Monitoring and analyzing media coverage, providing insights and recommendations to senior leadership.

  • Coordinating with marketing communications teams to align global media strategies with local business market needs, ensure cohesive messaging and local implementation in North America.

If you...

  • BA/BS in communications, public relations or related field (MBA/MA/MS a plus).

  • At least 3+ years of proven experience in media relations, communication agencies, corporate communications, or a similar role within a global context.

  • Outstanding written, verbal, analytical, and presentation skills, with demonstrated success in media relations and creating impactful communications with a variety of channels to reach todays modernly connected audience.

  • High initiative, self-starter with strong project management skills and proven ability to work effectively under pressure and a heavy workload.

  • Demonstrated success at interacting effectively with all levels of an organization desired.

  • Spanish, German, and/or French language skills are preferred
