Head Technical Industry Manager – Southfield (1801298)

Where the Chemistry Happens

The Head Technical Industry Manager will offer technical solutions to our Pigments for Plastics customers served by NA BASF Colors & Effects Division.

In this role, the Head Technical Industry Manager is part of the Technical Service group for Pigments for Plastics. The relevant product lines include Dyes, Effect, Inorganic, Organic Pigments and Preparations serving a variety of applications in the automotive, packaging, construction, household, fibers, sports and leisure, and many other sectors.

The Head Technical Industry Manager will also perform hands on laboratory work for technical service projects. This includes providing technical customer support for the Account Managers, Customers and Distribution Partners.

Formula for Success

You will use your Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Material Science (or similar field) OR PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science OR, M.S. in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or Materials Science degree to:

  • Provide test methods for the industry and/or product use in industry specific applications in order to sell more of BASF product in industry/sub-segment; supports test method development in conjunction with external test method societies.

  • Provide in depth product knowledge on specific product line(s)

  • Lead the Technical Team for Pigments for Plastics NA by developing and testing formulated solutions.

  • Perform hands-on work in the lab and coach the pool of Application Laboratory Chemists and Technicians, responsible for demonstrating the value of the product.

  • Technically position the line of commercial products, including comparison versus competitive products

  • Define “Value Propositions” of BASF products in relevant applications based on in depth application project and positioning against BASF and competition products. Define the Selling Arguments for Account Managers.

  • Stay current with trends, development and innovations in focus industries and the relevant product lines, maintain knowledge of customer application testing, and supports business growth through paper presentations at trade shows/ conferences, training of direct and indirect customers.

  • Provide on-site technical customer support for Customers, Distribution Accounts, as well as Account Manager if in-depth product and application support is needed.

  • Build internal and external networks in Plastic Industry

  • Represent Pigments for Plastics in standard committees, associations and conferences

  • Establish technical training concept, organize and conduct regular training sessions

  • Works in compliance with EH&S and ISO standards

  • Utilize your 3 years in Pigments for Plastics - Dyes, Effect, Inorganic, Organic Pigments and/or Preparations – or plastic processing experience for respective applications eg automotive, packaging, construction, household, fibers, sports and leisure.

  • In-depth expert knowledge of colorants for plastics and plastics applications

  • Experience to work in cross-cultural teams

  • Ability to identify R&D opportunities through interaction and knowledge of markets, industry, and customers, champion R&D pipeline filling

  • Excellent record of working with multi-faceted teams through knowledge sharing, coaching and mentoring

  • Correct color vision is required
