Laboratory Technician (2200059)- Southfield, MI

We are seeking a professional like you to join our team. In this role, you will be part of the ECO Customization team supporting a senior chemist in developing new automotive coatings formulas that meet customer requirements for appearance, workability, and film performance. The position will also support projects to resolve customer concerns with workability and film performance.

This position is responsible for working safely in the laboratory with the following job expectations:

A dedication to developing a superior paint coating by accurately making lab scale batches, evaluating wet paint properties, spraying paint samples, and evaluating dry film properties (appearance, color, etc.).

Work in a lab to make paint samples, evaluate the samples for color and identify the adjustment necessary to match the reference panel

Assist manufacturing and customer facilities in the new formula introduction

Provide in a remote way or travel to multiple sites to review formula performance and suggest adjustments

The person doing this job will be in a high-pressure environment trying to meet demanding customer expectations and timing for successfully introducing new primers and basecoats to the market.

The person will be working in and around a wet laboratory environment

The person will have a significant, but not final, say in what the formulas will be that are manufactured and provided to the customer

The job interacts with manufacturing in order to transfer formulas to production

The job interacts with internal customer account representatives to demonstrate that the products developed meet internal and customer requirements

An ability to accurately follow instructions, document your daily lab work, and effectively communicate your results will be crucial to making informed decisions at each stage of the project

An ability to safely lift 50-pound containers from the floor to a benchtop

An ability to work flexible work shifts to complete assigned projects.

Occasionally travel to customer facilities to support trials.

Maintain a clean and efficient laboratory by participating in existing Lean, 5S, safety, stocking, and cleaning procedures. Generate ideas that improve the safety, efficiency and overall effectiveness of the laboratory and its team

Ingredients for Success: What We Look For in You…

Basic Qualifications

Hight School Diploma or GED required

2 years of experience working in a laboratory setting required

2 years of experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook etc.) required

Able to pass Munsell Hue color test, which will be given during the interview process.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree or Associates Degree in a technical major is preferred

Automotive coatings Industry background preferred

Coatings color development preferred

SAP experience is preferred

Proven problem-solving skills and Analytical skills

Good organization skills with an ability to manage priorities and multi-task

Good verbal and written communication skills
