Technical Service Specialist (Formulation Additives) – Industrial and Automotive Coatings (1805418) – Southfield, MI

Where the Chemistry Happens

The Dispersions & Pigments business of BASF prides itself in offering a comprehensive range of solutions for formulators’ needs for products in coatings, inks, adhesives, and building materials.

We are seeking a professional like you to represent the Formulation Additives business of BASF, providing technical service and technical sales support to industrial and automotive coatings accounts including: product presentation and selection, new product introductions, technical inquiries and troubleshooting. You will identify new opportunities and product needs and initiate new business support lab projects. You will plan, organize, lead, and compile the results of the lab projects in reports for presentation to customers. Additionally, you will identify potential development programs and coordinate with R&D on potential new products concepts, providing expertise and observation to identify potential technical and market opportunities. There is an expectation of up to 50% travel associated with this role.

Formula for Success

  • Leveraging your education in Chemistry, Engineering, or a scientific related field plus your relevant industry experience, you will provide technical and industrial paint formulation support for new and existing products to achieve sales plan, provide sales tools, support and training for the salesforce and customers.

  • Demonstrating your industrial and/or automotive coatings paint formulation experience, you will plan, organize, develop and perform customer lab projects and present results to customers in formal written reports.

  • Your technical knowledge of water and solvent based industrial or automotive coatings paint formulations will be essential as you support Marketing, Sales, and Account Managers by providing product, customer, market, and industry information.

  • Successfully engaging across the organization, you will work closely with regional and global R&D to take new product developments to commercialization.

  • Your problem-solving and analytical skills combined with your drive for innovation will be valued assets as you investigate new applications or new product opportunities.
