Technical Specialist– 1903780 – Southfield, MI
This role will sit at the Charlotte, NC- Westinghouse Site starting in 2020. It will require heavy travel (up to 50%) to Southfield, MI the first 6-7 Months. If you currently reside in the Southfield location, relocation to Charlotte will be required before June of 2020. Relocation assistance is available from other locations.
Where the Chemistry Happens…
The Technical Specialist role will be part of the Transportation, Industrial, Furniture and Flooring Coatings (TIF) Technical Service Team based in Charlotte, NC and support the overall success of the Dispersions & Resins business in North America.
Main duties for this role include: performing hand on laboratory work for technical service projects including customer support, supports market facing industries and sub-industries as well as the Strategic Business Units, and interfacing with the Technical Manager, Market Segment Managers, other Technical Specialists, Application Lab Personnel as well as Technical and Sales Account Managers for their technical area of responsibility.
Formula for Success
Utilizes technical know-how on specific product lines, test methods for the industry and/or product uses in industry specific applications in order to sell more of BASF products; supports test method development in conjunction with external test method societies. Stays current with trends, development and innovations in focus industries and the relevant product lines.
Leveraging your degree and experience with or knowledge of: coating applications coating. Ability to identify R&D opportunities through interaction and knowledge of markets, industry, and customers, champion R&D pipeline filling. Works in compliance with EH&S and ISO standards while also demonstrating strong housekeep and safety-orientated mindset.
Has the ability to lead internal work groups and diverse teams across business lines as well as working as an individual contributor by developing and testing formulated solutions. Leads projects that introduce and apply new concepts and technologies that will have a substantial long-term business impact. Providing excellent communication skills as well as providing on-site customer support if in-depth product support is needed.
Performs hands-on work in the lab and is responsible for demonstrating the value of our products and maintains knowledge of customer application testing. Maintains knowledge of customer application testing and supports business growth through paper presentations at trade shows/conferences along with training of direct and indirect customers.
Actively maintains close communications including reporting of results and recommendations with line manager, Technical Specialists,Research& Development, and Marketing. Consults and connects across the organization to advance business goals and enhance technical expertise in the organization. Proposes leadership with new technologies and directions. Can design projects to pursue innovative solutions.
