Development Engineer, Fuel & Lubricant Solutions (1902527) – Tarrytown, NY

Where the Chemistry Happens

BASF is looking for a professional like you who is mechanically inclined and versatile product development engineer in the Fuels and Lubricant Solutions division. You will primarily have responsibility for managing testing of experimental driveline lubricants across multiple truck fleets, supporting technical efforts to introduce and commercialize new products, and working within a global team environment that includes fuel and lubricant R&D, business colleagues and customers. You should desire a long-term technical career ladder.

Formula for Success

· Leveraging your education in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering in conjunction with your experience in fuels, lubricants, or automotive mechanics, you will manage used oil samples; collect samples, enter vehicle ID information, submit for testing, and enter results in database. You will maintain consistent and accurate database of results; analyze individual test results and test programs, and present them in written reports for internal use and customer presentations. Additionally, you will verify integrity of engine, vehicle, fleet, used oil analysis test results; independently determine and execute corrective action when needed.

·Your experience with US Heavy-duty trucking industry, understanding of On-highway emissions regulations, and strong understanding of Heavy-duty truck powertrain will be essential as you monitor the status of 300 heavy-duty truck transmissions and axles to schedule inspections, rebuilds, and replacements at specified and timely intervals to minimize truck down-time. Participate in transmission and axle tear-down inspection at various OEM inspection facilities and generate accurate reports to present to business unit.

·Overseeing storage and shipping logistics you will be responsible for all heavy-duty driveline components that are undergoing evaluation or inspection.

·Interfacing with fleet managers, maintenance directors, technicians, and truck fleet owners/operators, you will manage component substitutions and arrange scheduling.

·Demonstrating your effective interpersonal skills and communication ability, written, oral, and presentation, you will develop relationships with fleets, OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers to source additional vehicles for future lubricant evaluation needs.

·Working with lubricant chemists, you will finalize package reformulations, tenders, and product launches and translate overall business needs into specific technical targets and deliverables. Experience with laboratory test equipment, ASTM protocols and ACC Code of Practice is essential.

·Using your knowledge of standardized lubricant and fuel tests, commercialization of lubricant products, and exposure to lubricant additives, lubricant formulation and base oils you will become familiar with other activities in the Mechanical Testing group, becoming generally proficient in fuel additive and engine oil evaluations.

·Your Ability to manage several high-profile projects concurrently will be critical as you identify strategic needs for testing facility upgrades that improve the long-term usefulness and credibility of data being generated.
