Strategic Account Manager- (2203007) - Position can be based in Calgary, AB, Regina, SK or Manitoba, MB.

Where the Chemistry Happens

The Strategic Accounts Manager is responsible for driving accelerated growth of BASF’s agricultural product portfolio to designated distribution management; maintaining and building good business/trade relationships with designated distributors and linked accounts. Collaboration with key personnel regarding business planning/implementation, product support/selling; assisting the National Account Manager with linked customer contact, meeting and call preparation in addition to various administrative and special project responsibilities. The Strategic Accounts Manager is the central and coordinating BASF contact for all facets of the BASF business relationship with designated distribution.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Call on designated distributors to communicate the value of BASF’s products.

  • Develop a value based Strategic Account Plan for each designated customer based on their unique needs, interests, and business goals and objectives in order to maximize sales opportunities.

  • Implement and execute the account plan in order to yield maximum sales and meet or exceed sales goals.

  • Develop and maintain good business & trade relationships with designated distributors and any linked associated accounts or contacts, including Head Offices to field related contacts.

  • Develop annual on ground sales plans (POG plans) and financial purchase plans for designated channel partners. Early on and ahead of the campaign season.

  • Ensure clear communication and fulfilment of all marketing letter requirements.

  • Communicate and promote BASF marketing, sales and technical programs to designated accounts and key personnel in order to drive business and achieve sales goals.

  • The Strategic Account Plan should define the potential of the designated accounts establish the priority coverage for accounts through appropriate call frequency and geographic patterns and market dynamics.

  • Initiate and coordinate strategic planning sessions with designated accounts that ensure sound business & action plans are developed, implemented and updated on a regional basis.

  • Take an active role in assisting the National Account Manager with Linked Account Call Preparations, Call Plans and issues resolution.

  • Communicate business issues and possible alternatives to BASF management in a timely manner and work with the appropriate BASF areas to implement solutions.

  • Support, cooperate and closely coordinate actions and plans with functions such as sales, marketing and technical teams to ensure objectives align with accounts and are achieved.

  • In a team based environment, collaborate with Regional Sales Management to ensure alignment of account plan objectives, initiatives and activities are clearly communicated and executed at the field level.

Formula for Success :

Education

· Bachelor Degree in Science (preferably Agricultural), Business or related field, other business related experience will be considered

Experience

· Minimum of 5 years’ experience in field sales, management, marketing, business development

Knowledge/Skills

  • Strong understanding of the manufacturer/distributor business relationship.

  • Proven track record of success selling to distributors.

  • Demonstrated success in budget management in a sales environment.

  • Strong inter-personal and communication skills and the ability to develop strong, successful strategic business plans and relationships with customers as well as internal teammates.

  • Proficient in creating, delivering and presenting customer presentations and materials relevant to the overall success of business plans.

  • Ability to self-manage time and resources and to allocate time and energy appropriately, resulting in achievement of goals.

  • Strong passion and demonstrated ability to conduct strategic business analysis regarding historical business activities as well as forward looking and predictive analysis.

  • Exhibited strength with respect to showing close attention to details while being diligent and thorough.

  • Excellent computer skills, with proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Willingness to travel overnight/weekly. Minimum 30-40% overnight travel, dependent on season.
