Research Technician – Wyandotte, Michigan

In the Urethanes Development group, the Associate Scientist participates in the development of new polyurethane products including elastomers and foams. The Associate Scientist works in the laboratory, performs complex tasks accurately, and then records the results. These tasks include the following:

  • Successfully engage across and outside the organization, you will interact frequently with colleagues as well as with customers, suppliers, consultants, universities, and government agencies, and play a leadership role in industry conferences and technical societies

  • Prepare samples of prototype products at laboratory or at pilot scale, and do so independently

  • Cast or apply the product samples to make realistic parts for testing, and do so independently

  • Independently perform tests on prototype parts using agreed-upon test procedures, and record the results

  • Run and maintain equipment for preparing, applying, and testing products

  • Possess an aptitude for observing, making suggestions and timely communication of results, issues, concerns, and innovative ideas

  • Keep a strong work pace over time, effectively completing work objectives at a satisfactory level according to current job level expectations

  • Routinely interact effectively within and outside the team/work group to accomplish goals, resolves conflict and assists others

  • Follow record keeping practices in notebooks and in databases

  • Collaborate with other group members

  • Resolve minor problems and adapt test methods to meet unique requirements

  • Support integrity of quality system with adherence to test methods, calibration and record-keeping procedures

  • Work safely, following all safety rules and keeping a high standard of housekeeping and cleanliness.

  • Willing to work with pilot plant equipment in an industrial environment

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…

Basic Qualifications:

  • HS Diploma or GED and 7 years of chemical laboratory experience OR Bachelor’s Degree with 2 years of chemical laboratory experience

  • 1 year of experience with MS Office

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with spray foam or spray coatings is highly desirable

  • Previous experience with polyurethane products or related products such as: adhesives, coatings, plastics processing or lubricants is an asset
